“Chatti Pathiri”- with Caremalized Plantain & Egg(layered sweet dish similar to Lasagne):

“Chatti Pathiri” is a popular Malabari dish from Kerala.. Wikipedia describes it as:” a layered pastry made in Malabar region of Kerala,India. It is made in both sweet and savory variations. And the dish is similar to Italian Lasagne”!!

So I hope my friends out there got an idea about this dish😊!! Even though i had it many times in my life, i never tried this at home..😊!!

Yeah, I am trying this for the first time..but it was really pleasure to try this amazing recipe with a twist in its filling..I kept Caremalized plantain and egg along with the usual recipe..

and here I am taking this yummy dish to Angie’s Fiesta Friday party😃!!

Ingredients:

all purpose flour-1 cup

egg-6( 2 for batter & 4 for filling )

plantain-2 big( cut to thin pcs )

Sugar-as per needed

Cashew nuts & raisins- a handful( sauted in ghee)

ghee-as per needed( be generous😛)

Poppy seeds-as per needed

How to make:

1) first let’s prepare the batter for thin pancakes..mix AP flour, egg, a pinch of salt along with enough water for a smooth loose batter..mix it thoroughly without any lumps..

image

2)heat a pan, grease it with butter/ ghee and start preparing thin panckes..cook both sides..( try to make this as the size of your baking dish or pan!! I used a sauce pan to get small chatti pathiri with 6 pan cake layers..)

image

3)now the thin pancakes / dosa are ready!!keep it aside..

4)now let’s prepare the caremalized plantains.. Heat a pan, add ghee and sprinkle some sugar all over evenly..now place our plantains over it and let it turn brown.. Flip and cook the other side..keep it aside after all plantain batches are done..

image

5)now in the same pan , pour egg beated with sugar in small batches.. And let it cooked.. Now the sweet smell coming out of it is heaven…😋!!

image

6)do atleast 3-4 egg layers..and keep it aside..

7)now lets start layering..

image

take our sauce pan/ baking dish.. Grease it fully with ghee/ butter..first place 1 pan cake.. Spread some ghee over it and sprinkle the poppy seeds and nuts..

8)then keep the plantains over it.. Followed by that place the egg layer..

image 9)now keep another layer of pan cake and repeat the process till the ingredients are finished..

10)for the top layer, place the pan cake with ghee spreaded.. Sprinkle poppy seeds and nuts all over..

image

11)now bake this in a preheated oven for 10 mins/ cook in low flame( simmer) on stove with dosa tawa beneath the pan to prevent the dish  from sticking to the bottom for 15 mins…

So our ” Chatti Pathiri” is ready😃!!

image

let it cool for awhile and then tranfser to a serving plate.. Cut it out  like cake and enjoy the rich caremalized dish😃

Very easy and effortles preparation..i really enjoyed doing this authentic Malabari dish..

I hope all my friends out there loves it😃😍!

  1. Great recipe! Thank you for sharing! There is a similar idea in Hungarian cuisine: palascinta. It’s with thin crepe pancakes layered with sweetened ground walnuts and thick jam in the layers. Amazing! 🙂
